Carpignano Salenino (Karpignana in ancient greek, Carpignanu in the local dialect, known as Carpignano until 1863), is a small town in the Lecce province, in Puglia. Since 2005, it is part of the “Union of the Towns of the Salentinian Greece”, the area in Salento influenced by the Greek culture and where ancient Greek was once spoken, however the language disappeared from Carpignano since the beginning of the XIX century.
